New Single W Cherie Currie From The Runaways

Essex is back in the lab — and this time he’s teamed up with the legendary Cherie Currie 🍒 (The Runaways) to unleash a razor-sharp revival of “When You’re Young.”

Originally cut by Victims of Pleasure, the track returns as a full-throttle blast of early ’80s UK new wave — cold synths, hard edges, and zero nostalgia. This version also spotlights Essex, the singularly named, swagger-dripping outsider landing somewhere between Duran Duran’s chrome pulse, Billy Idol’s sneer, and Joy Division’s beautiful darkness.

No filler. No polish. Just voltage.

Straight out of Chicago, Essex is a rock ’n’ roll agitator on a mission to drag authenticity back into the spotlight. Fueled by the ghosts of Idol, Marc Bolan, David Bowie, and James Brown, he channels an era when guitars cut deep, synths hit like sirens, and style meant something earned — not filtered.

Currie’s mystique collides with Essex’s streetwise menace, while Jürgen Engler (Die Krupps) detonates the production — forging a sound that’s industrial, defiant, and built to scar the modern alternative landscape.
